On 22 February, the C3 Project (Phase I) of Sinochem International went into trial operations with a launching ceremony held in Sinochem Lianyungang Circular Economy Industrial Park, signifying a major progress made by the Industrial Park.

The C3 Project is an important part of Sinochem International’s materials business transformation strategy. It is also the company’s first self-built project with an investment of over 10 billion yuan. The C3 supply chain refers to a series of chemical materials projects involving propane. The C3 Project of Sinochem International focuses on the production of propylene through the propane dehydrogenation (PDH) process and the downstream high-performance materials industries, seeking to develop high-tech, value-added products and branch out its product tree through integration and product differentiation. When the installation is put into operation, it will become the first capacity in China that uses the PDH process to produce phenol ketone and BPA, and to use hydrogen in building the product chain of propylene oxide and epichlorohydrin. The project will play a crucial role in the company’s strategy of building an extensive value chain of new chemical materials.

As China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, Sinochem International’s C3 Project, which recycles resources and adopts an intensive development model, is expected to become an exemplar of green and high-quality development of China’s chemical industry during 2021-2025. The project adopts innovative low-carbon recycling processes and technologies to add value to the by-products of the PDH process (i.e., hydrogen and sodium). It has made breakthroughs in extending the “circular” supply chain, increasing the recycling rate, and reducing consumption of raw materials.

In 2017, Sinochem International signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Lianyungang government on the construction of Sinochem Lianyungang Circular Economy Industrial Park in Xuwei New District, Lianyungang. According to the plan, the industrial park would be home to major strategic projects of Sinochem Holdings and Sinochem International. In past five years, Sinochem Lianyungang Circular Economy Industrial Park was built at an accelerated pace and it has become one of the three iconic projects of Lianyungang’s petrochemical industry.
