Lately, Elkem’s contributions to achieving climate goals and building competitive, green industry and jobs were among the topics highly recognized by Espen Barth Eide, Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, during his visit to Elkem Fiskaa. Espen Barth Eide visited Elkem’s production facilities, including the company’s extensive research and innovation facilities with advanced pilot testing facilities, laboratories and workshops, as well as Vianode’s pilot plant for sustainable battery materials. In order to encourage Elkem to create jobs through developing green industries, the minister also met with participants in the “Young Start” program for young people who have dropped out of school, but are given a new chance through employment and on--job training at Elkem Fiskaa. This is a collaborative effort involving the local government, NAV (the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) and others. In recent years, Elkem aims to be one of the winners in the green transition. In order to achieve this, the company is investing to reduce fossil CO2 emissions towards net zero by 2050, while growing their supplies of critical materials to growth markets like electric vehicles and renewable energy.
